District Attorney on the hot topic of Gun Violence

Bette Empol is a Co-Chair of the Ventura Chapter of Brady United. She has been a Gun Violence Prevention Activist for many years and is currently working to educate local School Districts and Community members about Gun Violence Restraining Orders (Red Flag Laws). She is a retired teacher and now working as a permanent substitute with Oak Park Unified School District. Bette is also a member of the Ventura County Democratic Central Committee and a Board member of the Democratic Women’s Council of the Conejo Valley.

Erik Nasarenko was appointed District Attorney by a unanimous vote of the Ventura County Board of Supervisors in January of 2021, becoming the 24th District Attorney to lead the office.

Prior to his appointment, Erik served and protected Ventura County as a Senior Deputy District Attorney, where he secured jury trial convictions against defendants for child molestation, rape, kidnapping, and murder. Erik was named Prosecutor of the Year in 2016 by District Attorney Greg Totten for his advocacy on behalf of children, women, and sexual assault victims. His efforts have resulted in multiple convictions of life imprisonment against some of Ventura County’s worst sexual predators.
